First day at the gym

Many people have inhibitions about their first day at the gym. They are eager to start working out there, but shy away from all the equipment and well-trained members. If you're one of them, this post is for you. Here we want to ease all your worries and prepare you perfectly for your first day at the gym.

No fear of the devices

You're not the only person who's worried about navigating the jungle of devices. But you can rest assured. Because in most fitness studios it is possible to do a trial training. You sit down with a qualified trainer and discuss your goals. He or she will then show you which machines are best to use and which exercises will get you to your goal. They will make sure that you do the exercise correctly to avoid injury.

You don't need to remember everything that is said to you, because the trainers usually take notes and create a training plan that you can take with you to the gym every time. If you can't remember every single piece of equipment on your second visit, you will usually find explanations directly on the equipment that will make it easier for you to use and train.

Focus on yourself

Don't pay attention to others when training. Concentrate on yourself.

It may seem to you that everyone is staring at you and looking at you critically. But most of the time it just seems that way. People go to the gym to achieve their goals and work on their fitness. They usually pay more attention to themselves than to others. And you can be sure: Everyone has had their first day at the gym. Everyone started at the beginning and was in the same position as you are now. So don't be afraid of judgement.

You should have this with you

It goes without saying that you should bring sports clothes. Every gym has separate changing rooms for each sex. In these you will also find lockers that can be locked. This is where you keep your street shoes and normal clothes, as well as your bag. Be sure to bring a pair of sports shoes that you don't wear outside. This keeps the gym cleaner and gives you a better workout.

You should also bring a towel to place on the seat of the equipment you are using. This makes the whole workout more hygienic for everyone. You will definitely be thirsty, so it is important to bring a water bottle. Many gyms also offer a free drinking station. You can refill your bottle and add different flavours to your water.

With these items, your sports bag should be perfectly equipped. You are well equipped for the first day. During the next training sessions, you may notice things that would sweeten the gym experience even more. This could include a mobile phone and headphones, for example.

Achieve goals

Be patient when it comes to achieving your athletic goals. You can't get a six-pack overnight. You will probably feel some muscle soreness in the first few days and weeks. This is normal as you are putting your body through stresses it is not used to. Over time, the soreness will decrease. Keep in mind that it takes more than exercise to reach your fitness goals. Nutrition is extremely important and can have a big impact on your physical performance and appearance.

As soon as you start training, you should make sure that you eat enough calories and protein. You can easily do this with our dishes, for example. We clearly label what nutrients a dish has.

Our recommendations
Aubergine casserole with lots of protein
Lose weight with the Summer Challenge
Aubergine casserole
Summer Challenge

This dish not only has a great taste, but also a full 45 grams of protein. This will help you build muscle mass and reach your goals. The 1000 calories sound a lot, but they are just right for the mass phase or muscle building. Because if you do a lot of sport, you burn a lot of calories. And building muscle with too few calories is difficult.

With the Summer Challenge, we create a personalised nutrition plan that is perfectly tailored to your needs and goals.
